What are the requirements for relocating a business to Singapore?

At minimum: register a company with ACRA (commonly a Private Limited company, with at least one Singapore-resident director); secure a local registered office address; open a Singapore corporate bank account; and arrange the founder’s own work pass typically an Employment Pass as Managing Director, or an EntrePass for qualifying tech startups.

Beyond incorporation, EDB alignment (fintech, biotech, advanced manufacturing, and similar priority sectors) can help when it comes to sponsoring your own or employees’ work passes, though it’s not a strict legal requirement for every business type.

Can I apply for a Singapore work visa as a business owner?

Yes, through one of two main routes. As Managing Director/CEO, you can sponsor your own Employment Pass, provided the company is genuinely operating, you’re formally appointed as director, and you meet the EP salary and qualification requirements.

Alternatively, the EntrePass is designed specifically for founders of innovative, typically tech-oriented startups and doesn’t carry the same salary requirement, but generally requires demonstrated investor backing or a credible, EDB-assessed business plan.

How much does it cost to set up a company in Singapore?

ACRA incorporation itself is inexpensive, typically a few hundred Singapore dollars in government fees but budget separately for a registered office address if you don’t have physical premises, a corporate secretary (legally required), annual accounting and tax compliance, and any professional fees if you engage a corporate services firm to handle registration and work pass applications together.

Total setup costs vary widely depending on how much of this you handle yourself versus outsourcing.

How long does it take to set up a company and get a work pass as a founder?

ACRA company registration is typically fast, often just days to about two weeks. The Employment Pass or EntrePass application layered on top usually adds a few more weeks, assuming the company is properly set up and the business case for your role and salary (or your EntrePass business plan) is clearly documented.

Founders who register the company and prepare the work pass application in parallel, rather than sequentially, generally move faster overall.

What are the eligibility criteria for a Singapore EntrePass?

EntrePass targets founders of innovative businesses, generally in technology-enabled or EDB-priority sectors, and typically expects either angel or venture capital backing, a track record of relevant entrepreneurial or technical experience, or a business idea assessed by MOM as sufficiently innovative and scalable.

Unlike the EP, there’s no fixed minimum salary, which makes it more accessible for early-stage, pre-revenue founders, but the business plan itself needs to be genuinely credible, since that’s the core of what’s being assessed.
