Singapore PR Sponsorship: Bring Your Family to Singapore Permanently
Here’s What You Need to Know
Singapore is one of Asia’s most desirable places to raise a family — safe, stable, and full of opportunity. If you’re a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident (PR), you may be eligible to sponsor your family members to also become PRs, enabling them to live, study, and work in Singapore permanently.
PR Sponsorship Guidelines
Who Can You Sponsor for Singapore PR?
Under the Family Ties Scheme, you can sponsor the following immediate family members:
Important: Siblings, in-laws, and extended family members are not eligible under this scheme.
Who Cannot Sponsor Family for PR?
Many first-time applicants misunderstand their eligibility. Here’s who cannot sponsor family members for PR.
- Work Pass holders (e.g., EP, S Pass, WP): You must become a PR or Citizen first
- Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) or Dependant Pass holders
- PRs below age 21 or without stable income
ICA carefully evaluates the sponsor’s financial stability and long-term residency — so even if eligible, your ability to support family members is key to a successful outcome.
What ICA Considers in PR Sponsorship Applications
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) assesses sponsorship applications based on:
- Your length of stay in Singapore as a PR or Citizen
- Your employment and financial stability (income, CPF contributions, tax history)
- Your commitment to remain in Singapore long-term
- Social integration of both sponsor and applicant
Even though family ties are the basis, ICA still evaluates the application holistically — don’t assume it’s automatic.
